Riding mass transit in Dallas doesn’t magically protect your commute from delays. Just as accidents and construction can increase travel times for drivers, DART train and bus riders are often at the mercy of these problems. Even the infrastructure and funding of the system itself can lead to unreliability — and as the city steadily tries to improve its public transportation, the benefits sometimes come at the cost of being a few minutes late to work.
Travel apps like Google and Apple Maps do a good job of letting you know about possible interruptions and their respective detours, but they aren’t the only options for receiving alerts. Other alternatives can quickly keep you informed of specific DART delays, help you keep track of where your bus/train is, and put you in contact with DART, among other helpful features. Trust us, sometimes on this system you need all the help you can get.
Check out these five options for keeping up with the DART system:
This app might be based in the U.K., but Dallasites should still take a look. It lists all of the available bus and train lines in your area, giving you the most up-to-date times on the system’s ETAs and departures. The app provides users with real-time predictions for most major cities, as well as weekly timetables allowing you to plan your schedule days in advance.

This Twitter account sends the latest updates on train delays, so that you can keep track of any hindrances to your schedule without navigating away from your feed.
Along with providing riders with the same delay updates as @dartalerts, this DART-run Twitter account puts you in contact with the organization’s social media outreach team for prompt responses to user questions and concerns.
While DART’s official Facebook page may not be the best resource for real-time updates, it still provides relevant delay information, in addition to other resources aimed at improving the DART experience.
One of the best ways to receive DART alerts is straight from the source. DART provides apps such as Where’s My Bus?, and Where’s My DART Stop?, and the organization’s site features an incredibly useful DART Trip Planner. The site also allows riders to register for instant email updates.
