It’s been a while since we rounded up some progress updates on Dallas’ slew of ongoing developments in and around the central city. Here’s a look at the state of five anticipated projects we’re definitely looking forward to:
Dream Dallas Hotel
Whatever happened to the Dream Dallas Hotel? We asked that question ourselves last summer, but it looks like this Uptown boutique hotel project by Dream Hotel Group is still in the pipeline — here’s a new rendering of the project, which is still delayed for unknown reasons but is supposed to break ground in June:
The site for the building, located in the 3200 block of McKinney Avenue in Uptown, remains empty for now. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one — we just really wanted to show you that new rendering.
This 33-story residential tower in the Uptown area’s Harwood District is in an advanced stage of construction — well, it depends on how you look at it. The building’s topped out, and according to the management at Harwood Living, it’s actually occupied on the 7th and 8th floors, with a few additional floors moving in this month. Each floor’s completion for occupancy will be staggered until the whole joint is occupied, at least in theory.
Construction kicked off last month on this 10-story mixed-use project by developer Greystar in the Bryan Place neighborhood just north of Deep Ellum, which will consist of 370 apartment units atop a Tom Thumb grocery store — a definite game-changer for the neighborhood. Still, it’ll be at least a year or more before the project delivers, so be patient.
The Union Dallas
We first caught up with this mixed-use project underway north of downtown at the corner of Cedar Springs Road and Field Street back in 2016, but the building’s moved along a bit since then. With its shell complete and the building topped out, the hardest part’s done — the building’s supposed to deliver this year, with 800,000 square feet of office, residential, and retail space divided between two towers.

Even if the 2018 completion date is a tad optimistic, it’s still nice to see the project take shape.
Virgin Hotel Dallas
This audacious 14-story hotel, which is designed by architects 5G Studio Collaborative to appear covered in lace, broke ground last year at 1909 Hi Line Drive in the city’s Design District. It’s slated for completion in 2019 — you can see its current progress, complete with one of the lace-looking panels, here. Not too shabby!
